How we charge: Financial Planning

You will naturally have questions about fees and about whether financial planning is going to be good value for money in your case. We’ve put together some information on this page that we hope provides answers to some of the questions you may have.

Do I need to pay for my initial meeting?

No. We believe that it’s very important you have a chance to get to know us and come to a decision on whether we are going to be able to provide you with value for money before you part with any money. For this reason, The Orchard Practice will always cover the cost of your initial discussions with us.

Is financial planning worth the fees?

We absolutely believe financial planning is worth the fees and provides true value. Of course, you may think we would say that, wouldn’t we! Our belief comes from the fact we see the positive results of our work every day. We know that personalised financial planning has the ability to transform lives, deliver financial freedom and enable clients to live comfortable, fulfilled and secure lives.

How will it add value for me?

We want all our clients to receive value that far exceeds the price they pay. In fact, we wouldn’t dream of taking on a client if we didn’t feel that was possible.

Of course, different people measure value in different ways. Some of our clients tell us the most valuable benefit they receive from us is the peace of mind and sense of security they gain from knowing we’re by their side providing expert, tailored financial planning support and advice for as long as they want it.

But we also know that you will want to feel confident you are going to receive financial value for money too.

There’s plenty of research that shows financial planning provides a financial uplift, although, of course, by how much varies depending on each person’s individual circumstances.

A study by the International Longevity Centre UK *, published in 2017, looked at two groups of people over a decade to see if they were better off after receiving financial advice. The first group were “affluent”, and the second group considered themselves to be “just getting by”. In both groups, those who took financial advice ended up with an average increase in their wealth of over ÂŁ40,000 more than those that didn’t take advice.

Please note: Even with expert help, the value of your investments can go down as well as up and you may not get back the amount you put in.

Our fees for financial planning

To provide you with accurate details of the fees we will charge for the work we do for you, we first need to meet you and gain a really good understanding of your needs. That way we can ensure we are charging you a fair price, based solely on the complexity and scope of the work you would like us to undertake.

We will therefore provide this information after your initial meeting with us. We will always agree with you in advance the fees we will charge, before any chargeable work begins. We will be completely clear about our fees, so you can rest assured you will never be unpleasantly surprised by any “hidden” extras.
